This is our "company car." A 1962 Chevy Corvair Convertible. it is one of just over 5000 made that year. 1962 is the first year for the convertible. My wife found the car rotting in a field. She thought I might like it, so she told me about it. Since I had 3 of these in high school, I decided to go ahead and take on the project.
As you can tell, returning the car to original condition was not a big concern. In fact, I am not sure if anything is left original on this car. The car has front disc brakes, (our kit), Datsun aluminum rear brake drums, (soon to be rear disc, our next kit), the engine is completely computer controlled from the crank triggered Ford EDIS ignition system to the wide band O2 EFI. All stuff we do. We make parts work.
The interior has just 2 plastic bucket seats that mount to the floor and roll bar, and can each be removed by pulling a single 3/8 retaining pin. The dash has all Autometer instrumentation, electronic speedo, tach, volts, oil temp, oil press, head temp, fuel level, and clock. We made aluminum interior panels for the doors, and aluminum panels for the engine bay. There is always something going on with the car, (when we are not serving customers that is!). After all, is any hot rod ever finished???
